Logan Paul: YouTuber apologises over Japan dead man video

3:08 PM 0
An American YouTube star says he does not expect to be forgiven after he posted a video which showed the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan.

The video showed Logan Paul and friends discovering the body in the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji, known to be a frequent site of suicides.
It prompted a barrage of criticism online with some comments calling it "disrespectful" and "disgusting".
Logan Paul later apologised and said he was "misguided by shock and awe".
"I have made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don't expect to be forgiven," he said in a video apology posted to Twitter.
"I should have never posted the video. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through. There's a lot of things I should have done differently, but I didn't", he said.
"I'm ashamed of myself," he added. "I'm disappointed in myself."
The video was uploaded on Sunday and had millions of views on YouTube before it was taken down.
Logan Paul, who has more than 15 million subscribers on the website, is visibly shocked by the discovery of the body but also makes jokes.
Japan has one of the highest rates of suicide in the developed world.
Aokigahara has a tragic reputation in Japan and internationally as a destination for people who want to kill themselves.
Data on the number of suicides there each year is not made public, to avoid publicising the site. Signs are posted in the forest urging people to seek medical help rather than take their lives.
The 15-minute video is part of a series of posts from Japan where the US vlogger is on a trip with friends.
They go on a visit to the forest intending to focus on the "haunted" aspect of it, he says in the video.
After walking a short distance into the forest, the group come across a body.
The group is filmed approaching the body, which is shown in several close-ups where only the face is blurred out.
A member of the group is heard off camera saying he "doesn't feel good". Paul then asks him: "What, you never stand next to a dead guy?" He then laughs.
The identity of the deceased man is not known.

'Garbage person'

By Monday, Logan Paul's name was trending globally on Twitter. Though some people said he had helped raise awareness, the comments were overwhelmingly negative.
Online comments have accused him of acting inappropriately and being disrespectful. Some have called for his entire channel to be removed from YouTube.
Some supporters insisted he should be forgiven for what they said was a mistake, with one tweeting: "You still are the best out there and always will be" with the hashtag #Logan_you_are_forgiven.
But in an apology posted on his Twitter page, Paul, of Westlake, Ohio, said: "For my fans who are defending my actions - please don't. They do not deserve to be defended."
He also said he wanted to "make a positive ripple on the internet, not cause a monsoon of negativity", by raising awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.
Paul says in the video that he is not making money from the content. YouTube, which pays content providers for videos that garner above a certain number of hits, did not immediately respond to the BBC's request for comment.

Kale & apple soup with walnuts

Kale & apple soup with walnuts

Make the most of seasonal kale and give this soup added depth with sweet apple and a crunchy walnut topping - perfect as a healthy lunch

Ingredients

8 walnut halves, broken into pieces
1 onion, finely chopped
2 carrots, coarsely grated
2 red apples, unpeeled and finely chopped
1 tbsp cider vinegar
500ml reduced-salt vegetable stock
200g kale, roughly chopped
20g pack of dried apple crisps (optional)

Method

In a dry, non-stick frying pan, cook the walnut pieces for 2-3 mins until toasted, turning frequently so they don’t burn. Take off the heat and allow to cool.

Put the onion, carrots, apples, vinegar and stock in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 mins, stirring occasionally.

Once the onion is translucent and the apples start to soften, add the kale and simmer for an additional 2 mins. Carefully transfer to a blender or liquidiser and blend until very smooth. Pour into bowls and serve topped with the toasted walnuts, and a sprinkling of apple crisps, if you like.

      NYFW Never Disappoints

      1:58 PM 0

New York Fashion Week never disappoints. In spite of widespread speculation that the Fall 2017 showings would be unimpressive––due to the swapping of major American designers from New York’s runways to Paris’s––the week was a huge success. In fact, the absence of Rodarte and Joseph Altuzarra was barely noticed in the midst of the week’s jaw-dropping moments. And trust me, there were many.

Fashion lovers look to runway shows for inspiration and insight on style predictions for the coming seasons. However, this season in particular, many of the week’s designers found themselves influencing much more than just the up-and-coming trends. Instead, they used their power and publicity to speak to political and social movements through their designs, guest-lists and model selections.

As show-goers and followers learn, a designer’s collection is only half of the show. While many of the Spring 2018 collections are worth acknowledging for their sheer beauty or interesting aesthetics, most designers were not making headlines for their clothing alone. Rather this Fashion Week’s memorable moments happened when industry leaders and newcomers alike used the runway as a platform for vocalizing their beliefs in spite of our tense political and social climates.

Specifically, the week’s chill-giving moments revolved around people. Shayne Oliver, who debuted his first collection for Helmut Lang, along with casting directors Ellis Scheinman and Walter Pearce, shocked audiences with their bold mix of model choices. “Where many this week have played it safe, using only established faces, Oliver, Ellis Scheinman, and Pearce take the opportunity to introduce the fashion world to a series of newcomers to watch,” according to (Vogue). “[T]hey created a model squad that wasn't defined by their Instagram follower count.” While our ‘insta-girl’ favs such as Gigi, Bella and Kendall are still any fashionista's style muses, their faces have become redundant on the runways. From London to Paris to New York, it is refreshing to see a cast of new faces and young talent.

Another show worth noting for its iconic moments is that of Prabal Gurung. Last season, Mr. Gurung embellished his runway with slogan tees and feminist statements. This season, continuing his desire to promote change, Mr. Gurung hosted a kick-ass front row featuring two incredibly inspirational women––Huma Abedin and Gloria Steinem. While it could have been easy for show watchers to get lost in the beautiful minimalism of the designer’s bold color choices and asymmetrical hems, it was impossible to ignore the importance of having such noteworthy women seated front-and-center. As said by (Vogue), “Steinem was his guest of honor, and his runway was more diverse than ever, with the Hadid sisters, Ashley Graham and Andreja Pejic among the bold-facers. Gurung is using his platform to promote change, and in a Fashion Week taking place among headlines about Hurricane Irma and other global catastrophes, that made this show feel vital.”

Fashion has always been used as a catalyst for social and political change; however, critics have judged the industry time and time again for its lack of diversity and for its shallowness. In the wake of an unsettling political climate, it is inspiring to see designers who recognize their potential to send meaningful messages that reach mass audiences. Hopefully, by next season, the catwalk will foster even more diverse castings and significant statements.

Place des Tendances déploie sa marque propre Day Off

      10:07 AM 0

She Saw Her Daughter With Her Ex's New Girlfriend. Here's What She Had To Say

      6:13 AM 0

As a child, being forced to deal with your parents falling out of

love with one another can be emotionally draining

Many couples try to hide the truth from their children, but as is often the case, the kids know more than what their parents are letting on. But perhaps the biggest struggle with falling out of love and finding love again is the stereotypical responses that come with finding a new partner. Moms and dads will say that they want what’s best for their child, but with labels such as “the other woman” and other forms of badmouthing directed toward an ex’s latest love interest, it’s nearly impossible to show your child that separated families can still come together for their kids. Rather than seeing her ex’s new girlfriend as competition, this mom of one is accepting of the new woman in her daughter’s life.

Upon learning that Henry had begun dating someone new, Loving accepted the new woman with open arms.
